About 30 minutes down river, your boat driver will make a left into a mangrove channel such as this one. |
Enjoy the ride as you cruise down the calm and serene Sierpe River. Your driver will stop for any wildlife viewing. |
After settling in, you may want to take a stroll to Sabalo village where Tico families ride horses & live off the land. |
After 10 minutes of winding through the enchanting mangroves, you will end up in our front "driveway". |
Congratulations! You have survived the crocs (just kidding) and made it to the entrance of Sabalo Lodge. |
A must see is our caretaker's home nearby. His landscaping and hand crafted furniture is extraordinary. |
As you pass by Sabalo Village, you may see school children studying outside. Why wasn't I so lucky? |
In Sabalo, horses are used for many things such as transporting wood from nearby fallen trees. |

For the adventurous, hike up a hill and see this spectacular view of the mangroves & river out to the ocean. |
A favorite pastime of our guests is kayaking through the mangroves. Hear and see lots of mangrove birds. |
There are many trails and roads to hike around Sabalo. You may see monkeys, sloths and other wildlife. |

The roots of the mangrove trees act as a nursery for many species of fish and are home to oysters and crabs. |

Large tropical rainforest tree growing next to the mangroves with huge buttress roots to help stabilize it. |

After all this adventure, it's time for my personal favorite sport: hammocking. Ahhhhhhhh, pura vida! |
At the "boca" (the mouth of the Sierpe river) you'll find gorgeous secluded beaches that are safe for swimming. |
This beach at the boca is called Playa Blanca. Beautiful white sand, no rip tides, very secluded and good fishing. |
