Cultural Fruit Farm Tour

There are many undiscovered, even hidden, aspects to the Costa Rican culture
that many tourists will never get to experience. This is one of those hidden gems that
totally amazed us when we stumbled across it. Along the Sierpe river to Violin Island
(25 minutes by boat from Sabalo Lodge) there lives an old Tico with the spirit of a young man that has created an expansive and truly amazing farm. He is an artist of the
land and has cultivated a fascinating variety of tropical fruits, vegetables and ornamental plants with an attention to variety and aesthetics.

As you exit the Sierpe river and hang a left within the maze of mangrove channels you would never expect to see what lies ahead. Passing though a garden of giant bamboo where the sun struggles to bring light you begin to realize this is an extraordinary place.

Your host and farmer Jose Angel is a wonderful and warm person who enjoys guests and proudly takes you around to his little piece of paradise. You will be amazed that a solitary person of his age could maintain such a large area.

The ornamental plants that border his gardens shows his love of farming and offers
you a view of some of the endemic species not commonly seen in most areas.

The many different varieties of bananas that he grows is a testament
to his talents. We also believe that you will not taste a sweeter banana
once you’ve sample a few from his farm.

There are many things to see as well as wildlife just outside his property that
makes for a great trip. We also take the time to pick some fruits and
vegetables to take back for your meals.

A portion of this tours proceeds goes directly to our gracious
host and favorite farmer in the Osa Peninsula.
